Vaginal atrophy is an inflammation of the vagina due to lack of estrogen causing loss of lubrication and thinning and shrinking of the tissues. This occurs with natural menopause, as well as menopausal states brought on by cancer treatments, post-operatively after hysterectomy and ovary removal, during treatments for endometriosis, and during breastfeeding.

Symptoms of vaginal atrophy can include vaginal discomfort and itching, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse or complete inability to have intercourse.

Urinary symptoms related to vaginal atrophy include painful urination, increased urgency and/or frequency of urination, urinary incontinence, and increased urinary tract infections.
